Socks and Sandals

By Abby

I don't like it when people wear socks with sandals. When I see them in public my first reaction is to think less of that person. I mean, I just don't understand it. Why would someone do such a thing when there are so many options of footwear?

Maybe they come from a community where lots of people wear socks with sandals. Maybe they feel more comfortable wearing socks with sandals. Maybe they have worn them since childhood and maybe it's a recent development. What I have learned is that them wearing any combination of shoes and hosiery does not affect me in the slightest.

That person probably enjoys baked goods and a funny joke as much as I do, because, come on, who doesn't? That person probably loves their mama (there are exceptions. See my upcoming book report about The Trial by Kafka). They most likely have a favorite color and a sports team that they support. To paraphrase Dickens, they really are fellow passengers to the grave and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys.

It may be statistically less likely to see someone with socks and sandals than other shoes, but all choices of shoes are valid and deserve the same respect. If you see someone with socks and sandals and you don't understand why they wear them, remember that it isn't your place to question their shoes then maybe go home and Bing it.
